Rex Walters Announces 2008 USF Basketball Coaching Clinic, August 30 at War Memorial Gym
Naismith Hall of Fame Coach Chuck Daly and Orlando Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy Will Come to the Hilltop
(San Francisco) - USF head coach Rex Walters announces a coaching clinic Saturday, August 30, 2008, featuring Naismith Hall of Fame coach Chuck Daly and current Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy. The clinic begins at 9:30 AM at War Memorial Gym on the USF campus.
Coach Walters, who played for four Naismith Hall of Fame coaches during his collegiate and NBA career (Roy Williams, Daly, Larry Brown and Pat Riley), is excited to host an event attracting coaches with outstanding credentials.
Coach Daly coached Walters, while guiding the New Jersey Nets and compiled an outstanding resume of success at the collegiate, professional and Olympic ranks. A 1994 inductee into the Basketball Hall of Fame, Daly is the only coach to collect an NBA title and an Olympic Gold Medal. Daly won back-to-back titles with the Detroit Pistons (1989-90) and led the original "Dream Team" to Olympic Gold in Barcelona.
Stan Van Gundy enters his second season as the head coach of the Orlando Magic after a 12-year run with the Miami Heat. Van Gundy guided the Heat to a 59-23 record in 2004-05 and a berth in the Eastern Conference Finals, before bowing to the Pistons, the eventual NBA Champions. Van Gundy owns a 164-103 NBA career record and guided the Magic to a 52-30 and Southeastern Division Championship in his inaugural season in Orlando.
