How are they doing this summer?
They will be fine. They made it to the gold bracket championship game in the Main Event tourney in Vegas, as a high school team against all -star teams. They are built to be more fast-paced than spartan teams of the past.

They are always very good. They play W.C.A.L style defense and run a precision offense that spreads teams out so they can use there patented screens and back door plays. This team is very well coached year in and year out, very disciplined and always hungry. The coach uses all of his personnel which makes everyone on the team feel like they are making significant contributions. DLS is definitely a top notch Basketball program in our area. I would put them up there with the great programs in Nor Cal: Serra, Mitty, St. Ignatius, Riordan, St. Joseph's, St. Mary's, Oak Grove, Newark Memorial and Jesuit. These schools have a rich tradition of having excellent teams throughout the years. Look for DLS success to continue.

I went to the frosh football game at De La Salle on Saturday when they played against Serra and saw some great athletes that put on a good show for the fans. # 87 from DLS, a huge kid made an unbelievable catch for a touchdown. I don't know his name but he is supposed to be a good basketball player. Also, the QB from Serra #18 and # 11 the wide receiver made some great pass plays all day long. These two guys are also supposed to be top notch basketball players. I can see why. All three of these kids looked very athletic. As usual, DLS was loaded with talent and overwhelmed Serra in an exciting contest. Both teams had some big kids that I'm sure will play hoops after football season is over. DLS looks like they have a terrific freshman class and Serra's is not to shabby either.

I don't know if this freshman from DLS played summer ball but I'm sure you will see him during the hoops season. He looks like Theo Robertson from Cal, a DLS grad. Big body, athletic and mature for a freshman. I know this is a B-Ball board, but some B-Ball kids are also very good football players and athletes in general. Coach Allocco's son coaches the younger players and if this kid played in the summer he would have most likely played on one of his teams. It's amazing to me but people in the stands at freshman football games already have the scoop on certain kids as far as what kids are good at certain sports, etc. This critiquing of players starts sooner and sooner nowadays.

As long as Frank is coaching that team the Spartans will always be one of the top teams in NorCal. He is not winning by accident. Great coaching, disciplined players = success.

The three freshman basketball prospects mentioned above that shined in the DLS-SERRA football game were #87 Kelvin Morgan(DLS Frosh),
#18 Andrew McAlindon(Serra Frosh), and #11 John Vincent(Serra Frosh).

[Frank is starting to lose hi strangle hold over that team. There are too many rumblings of discontent. The players have had it, the parents have had it and it won't be long until the administrators will have had enough. The man knows how to win, unfortunately he does it at the price of just too many young men that he chews up and spits out. It is sad that so many people hold him in such reverence because they simply do not know what goes on.]
