I saw the game, DLS is a great defensive team. I am interested in seeing them play again with a healthy Williams. But then again, how many more points could he score by himself. Calvin had 13, but he stayed in when the DLS bench was in and got some points there. He had a real tuff night, and tried to take out his frustration on a DLS player with a cheap shot.

Antioch is definatley just a 2 player team, after seeing that game I don't think they have enough to beat DLS.

With that said, does anyone think another team in the BVAL can?

With a few games into the season has anyone changed their opinions on who the best canidates for 1st team and MVP are?

Although Douglas had an off night, you did not mention that they ran three different guys at him all night. You say you were the game, than you should have noticed that no one player can win a game. They did a good job on containing him, which he stated in the paper. Also, you are talking about DLS which is ranked in the State. And yes with a healthy Tim Williams it maybe close. I mean give the kid Douglas some credit, Max Preps stated that he is the “most improved player in the State” avg. 26.4 a game, Nor Cal Preps rated him at 28 of the top 40 players in Nor Cal and the # 6 top point guard. How many other kids beside Williams was ranked in the BVAL?

Give credit were it is due!!!!

I think Calvin ran into the best defender of the league last night. People forget that just because you do well against subpar teams in the bay during the summer, this doesn't mean you are a beast, and unstopable! Get real.

But it took 2 people everytime down the court to stop douglas.i would like to see him and smith go one on one the whole game and then i bet douglas would win the battle

Calvin did go against Smith 1-on-1,..... their second possession of the game and Smith picked the ball while Calvin was doing a crossover for a jumpball ... many other times Calvin coughed it up when pressured 1-on-on with Smith.

The only double team on Calvin happened after he was forced to pick up his dribble (if you were at the game) and a 2nd man came to trap( which would've happen to the other guard for Antioch that should of been handling the ball, so Calvin could be a 2 guard). There was no special attention to Calvin, that how DLS defends.
Calvin is a talented player, and should be able to play beyond HS, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Keep it real, i know you're Calvin's cousin, Marzee!

Calm down sparky. I was at the game and they did not run 3 guys at him. I said he had a tuff night. He had Smith guarding him, when he got a foul, they had Estrada on him the rest of the half, then Smith was back on him. If you are counting the bench player who guarded him after Smith and Estrada were done for the night, then lol ok he had 3 diferent guys at DIFFERENT TIMES IN THE GAME. Reality is, Smith and Estrada locked him down, neiter were bumping him like Douglas claimed. It sounded like an excuse. Please stick to the facts, don't lie and say 3 guys were running at him al night.

And talk about giving credit how about just saying Smith and Estrada did a great job defening him, peroid. Neither of them needed a 2cnd man to help them. Please, no lame excuses of bumping Calvin.
I credit to Calviin for improving this summer, lets see how he will adjust the next time they play. If you are his fan, or friend or him, you know that if he is as good as you say he is, he will be able to have an answer for that defense next game at home.

Okay, DLS beat Heritage by 20. But I still don't think Smith is the best defender in the league. I saw Knox lock him up all game. Your thoughts?

Thought: You have to understand roles, if Jason Kidd plays Joe Johnson and Kidd has a triple double( 10pts, 14 asst, & 10 steals) with a win and J.J. has 18pts with 2asst & a steal. Do you say that Joe Johnson locked Jkidd up? NO! In fact it may be just the opposite. J.J. needed to score about 35pts to pull out a W, while Jkidd's role is to serve up the table for his teammates and keep the defense honest.

What do you consder locked up? I would think you would consider locking up a point guard would mean you disrupt his ability to run the teams offense, and get him to turn the ball over. Incase you missed it, DLS won by than 23, Smith had about 7 assists, ran his teams offense fine, and only turned the ball over once. (And wow did Rivera have a monster game!)

IF YOU CAN READ THIS, IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL, IT IS THE SECOND TIME I AM TYPING IT: I NEVER CALLED SMITH THE BEST DEFENDER IN THE BVAL.

My point was and is simply: Calvin is not as good as the hype machine in Antioch said he was, and neither is the team. I was not pub'ing Smith so much as I was pointing out that some Antioch fans were gratuitous in their claims about Calvin and his team. So let's drop it already.....like Dela did your boys![/b]

***If gratuitous is too big of a word for you, (and by your use of grammar I am guessing you don't) here is the link to Wikipedia look it up: http://www.wikipedia.org

Smith ACTUALLY had 9 assists & 5 steals acoording to the Contra Costa Times, while disrupting Heritage offense over & over again.
