Looks like he went to some school back East. Anyone know why he went there?
Grades or lack of grades. Prep schools just pad the grades for them. Someone thinks he is worth the money because he can play ball. What about after basketball? Personally, I think the kids need to be able to get a job. One injury, basketball is over. That's the reality, not hating on them. One of my sons played great football, looked like he might have a shot at college ball. During his senior year he decided that he did not want to play anymore. His grades were not that good, but he attended a great school. He went to JC for 2 years, transferred out of state, got both a bachelors and a masters.
I agree with you, there is too much emphasis on kids getting athletic scholarships and not enough emphasis on grades. If Simpkins was not doing well with his grades at his previous school, then the parents and administration are to blame. Its unfortunate that there are no repercussions on them and the kid has to suffer if something tragic were to happen that would end their "athletic career".

seems like most athletes forgot about being a student athlete
